Stone Fireplace Surrounds in Charleston, SC

A stone surround can define the fireplace and the room around it. Tava Granite and Marble fabricates and installs stone fireplace surrounds and hearths for Charleston-area projects.

Start with the fireplace and its requirements

Share photos, approximate dimensions, and the fireplace make and model if available. Explain whether this is an existing fireplace, a new appliance, or part of a larger remodel. Installation instructions and the appliance’s requirements need to inform the design from the start.

Confirm clearances, substrate requirements, attachment, and any adjacent combustible materials with the appropriate installer or trade. A stone finish does not by itself establish that a fireplace installation is suitable. Final dimensions and construction details must be agreed before fabrication.

Plan the surround, hearth, and pattern

Discuss how far the surround should extend, whether a hearth is part of the design, and how the surface meets the floor, walls, or mantel. Review joints, exposed edges, corners, and any limits on the size of individual pieces.

For pronounced veining, consider how the selected slab will be arranged around the opening. Marble, granite, and other surface options can begin a material conversation, but the exact selection must be reviewed for your fireplace’s requirements. Availability and suitability should be confirmed rather than assumed.

From design discussion to installation

Bring design references and room photos so the proportions and finish can be discussed. Agree on measurement, material selection, preparation, access, and who handles any appliance or construction work. Large or tall pieces may require additional planning for transport, handling, and support.

What affects a fireplace surround estimate?

The dimensions, selected material, slab arrangement, edge details, hearth, joints, preparation, and access affect the work. Tell us about existing finishes that need to be removed and any planned changes to the fireplace. Confirm the countertop or stone installer’s scope separately from appliance and building work.

Fireplace surround questions

Can you include a matching hearth?

Discuss the hearth as part of the complete design, including its dimensions, edges, support, and the fireplace requirements.

Can the surround be made without joints?

That depends on slab size, opening dimensions, handling, and installation requirements. Review the proposed piece layout before fabrication.

Who confirms appliance clearances?

Use the fireplace manufacturer’s instructions and coordinate with the appropriate installer or trade. Confirm responsibilities before the stone is measured and cut.
