Countertop Installation in Charleston: What to Expect

Exploded-view illustration of a countertop and sink aligned above kitchen island cabinets.

A countertop project involves more than choosing stone and setting an installation date. Material selection, measurements, fabrication, and access to the room all need to work together. If you are planning a kitchen or bathroom update in the Charleston area, knowing what to discuss at each stage can make the process easier to organize.

Tava’s countertop process includes consultation, material selection, precision fabrication, and installation. Here is how to prepare for those conversations.

Start with the room and the project scope

Tell us whether you are replacing existing countertops, installing new cabinets, or planning a larger renovation. Bring room photos, a rough layout, and ideas for the finished space. Mention the property’s location and any stairs, elevator access, narrow entrances, or parking restrictions that could affect a site visit or delivery.

Early measurements help explain your plans, but they do not replace the final measurements used to fabricate your countertops. Let the team know if the cabinet layout or appliance choices are still changing.

Choose the material and confirm the details

Along with the slab or surface design, discuss the edge profile, backsplash, sink, faucet openings, and any cooktop cutout. For an island, explain how you plan to use seating and ask about overhangs and support requirements for the selected material.

If you are still choosing a surface, our granite, quartz, and marble guide gives you questions to bring to the discussion. Review seam placement and pattern direction before fabrication so the planned layout is clear.

Coordinate measurement and fabrication

Ask what must be complete before final templating and which sink or appliance specifications the team needs. Confirm the readiness of the cabinets with your installer rather than assuming a preliminary drawing is enough to begin cutting.

Once the details are agreed, fabrication prepares the surface, openings, and edges for the measured layout. If you want to change a fixture or dimension, contact the team before making the change. A change after fabrication starts may affect both the work and the schedule.

Prepare for installation day

  • Confirm arrival arrangements and keep the agreed access route clear.
  • Remove small appliances, decorations, and personal items from the work area.
  • Ask which cabinets or drawers need to be emptied.
  • Agree who will remove the existing tops and handle plumbing, electrical, or appliance connections.
  • Keep children and pets away from the installation area.

Do not assume removal, disposal, or trade connections are included; confirm those responsibilities in your quote. Ask when the surface and sink can be used after installation and follow the instructions provided for your project.

Discuss your location and schedule

Tava serves Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties as well as the other locations listed in our Service Areas. Tell us your city and preferred timeframe when you request a free estimate. Material availability, project readiness, and the agreed scope determine the schedule; confirm dates for your own project before arranging other renovation work.
