Planning a Countertop Budget in Charleston: Your Estimate Checklist

If you are budgeting for new countertops in Charleston or a surrounding service area, the most useful starting point is a quote for your actual room. A price based only on square footage may leave important details unresolved, such as sink openings, edges, removal of existing tops, and installation access.

Here is what to gather before requesting an estimate from Tava Granite and Marble, and what to compare when reviewing the scope.

Material and layout work together

Tell us whether you are considering granite, quartz, or marble, and share any colors or designs you like. If you have not chosen a material, explain your priorities and budget so the discussion can focus on suitable options. Our countertop material guide can help you prepare.

A room’s layout also matters. An island, separate countertop runs, a backsplash, or a waterfall end can require different material and fabrication planning. Share a rough sketch with dimensions and photographs of the whole room, rather than only a close-up of the current surface.

Identify the details that need to be included

  • Edges and exposed sides: show which sides will be visible and ask about the edge profiles available.
  • Sink and fixture openings: provide the sink model and explain any faucet, dispenser, or cooktop openings.
  • Backsplash: clarify whether you want countertop material on the wall and how far it should extend.
  • Island seating: discuss the intended overhang and any support that may be needed.
  • Existing surfaces: confirm who is responsible for removal and disposal.
  • Other trades: identify who will handle plumbing, electrical work, and appliance connections.

These are scope questions, not a list of services automatically included in every estimate. Ask for the agreed inclusions and exclusions in writing so you can compare quotes on the same basis.

Explain the site conditions early

Include your city or county, whether the property is a house or another type of building, and any access restrictions. Tell us about stairs, elevators, delivery arrangements, or work-hour restrictions that the team should discuss with you. Also mention whether the cabinets are staying, being replaced, or still being planned.

If you have a target date, share it as a planning preference. Confirm material availability and project readiness before treating that date as an installation booking.

A simple checklist for your request

Have your project address or city, room photos, approximate dimensions, preferred materials, fixture details, and desired timeframe ready. Rough dimensions help begin the conversation; final fabrication requires professional measurement. If something is undecided, say so rather than guessing.

Request a local countertop estimate

Tava provides stone countertop fabrication and installation and serves Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton, Beaufort, Georgetown, and Williamsburg counties in South Carolina, plus Savannah, Georgia. We are willing to travel to cities within these service areas.
