Marble Countertops in Charleston, SC
Marble brings natural veining and a distinctive surface to kitchens and bathroom vanities. Tava Granite and Marble provides marble countertop fabrication and installation for Charleston-area homes and businesses.
Decide how you want marble to live in your space
Choosing marble involves more than selecting a color. Think about whether you prefer a surface that develops signs of use or want a more consistent appearance over time. Discuss your cooking, cleaning, and daily routines before choosing a slab and finish.
Veining can be subtle or pronounced, and the pattern changes from slab to slab. Review the actual material where possible. For an island, backsplash, or long vanity, ask how the veins will run through the finished pieces and where joints may be needed.
Understand etching, staining, and sealing
Marble is sensitive to acids. Lemon juice, vinegar, and some personal-care products can leave dull marks called etching. Etching is a change to the surface and is different from a stain. A sealer can help with stain resistance but does not prevent acid etching or make marble stain-proof.
Use a stone-appropriate, non-acidic cleaner, wipe spills promptly, and protect the surface with coasters, cutting boards, and trivets. Ask about care for your specific slab and finish. If resistance to visible change is a priority, compare marble with quartz countertops before deciding.
Plan a marble kitchen or bathroom vanity
In a kitchen, discuss your expectations around food preparation and everyday wear. In a bathroom, consider cosmetics, cleaning products, sink openings, and faucet placement. Bring your cabinet layout, fixture details, and room photos so Tava can review the design and fabrication requirements with you.
Marble fabrication and installation
Start with a consultation and material discussion. Once the layout, slab, edge treatment, and cutouts are agreed, accurate measurement informs fabrication. Cabinet readiness, support requirements, delivery access, and coordination with other trades should be addressed before installation.
Review our fabrication guide for layout and cutout decisions, and our installation guide for site readiness and trade coordination. Confirm the inclusions and schedule for your own project rather than assuming every installation has the same scope.
What affects a marble countertop estimate?
Slab selection, usable material, vein layout, edge details, sink openings, backsplash, and site access influence the estimate. Pattern matching or a layout that needs additional material can also change the scope. Share approximate dimensions and design references, then confirm details after measurement.
Marble countertop questions
Is marble suitable for a busy kitchen?
It depends on how you use the kitchen and how comfortable you are with patina and visible wear. Discuss those expectations before selecting marble.
Does a honed finish eliminate etching?
No. A finish changes the appearance of the surface; marble remains acid-sensitive. Ask how different finishes may show wear on your chosen stone.
Can you match the veining across every piece?
Pattern continuity depends on the available slabs, dimensions, and layout. Review the proposed arrangement and any limits before fabrication.
